From the Mental Daily (https://www.mentaldaily.com/article/2022/01/survey-finds-three-in-ten-americans-are-readers-of-e-books)
There are a substantial number of American adults that prefer to read electronic formatted books, according to a survey by the Pew Research Center
“Americans are spreading their book consumption across several formats,” the authors of a Pew report stated. “The share of adults who have read print books in the past 12 months still outpaces the share using other forms, but 30% now say they have read an e-book in that time frame.”
The Pew report found that 65 percent of American adults surveyed preferred reading a print book in the past year. The survey was conducted during January and February of 2021.
These kinds of questions always make me wonder why they didn't also ask how many books the people read so that that information could also be included. If you only ask if "they have read an ebook, audiobook, or print book then that is a 0 or 1 option. Yes, I read a book or No, I didn't. But consider the adjusted impact that might have if the reader had read 10 books or 100 books sometime over the past year. If that were so then a digital reader that read 100 books would have a greater impact on reading books that way over a paper reader who only read 1.
If you find that digital readers read more books than paper readers that would have a big impact on the print houses and overall sales of books. Also
according to the Pew Research Center (2021), the average adult American reads 12 books a year, with half of Americans reading 4 or less. The HuffPost/YouGov poll (2014) showed that 25 percent of Americans read between one and five books last year, 15 percent read between six and ten books, 20 percent read between 11 and 50, and eight percent read more than 50. So one of the questions needs to be considered is how many books do these people read, if the average with 12, then someone reading 50 who was a digital reader has about 5 times the impact by comparison. So what is the format that the big readers are reading?
